It's Starting to Feel Like Home
Hello Skyview Friends,
It’s hard to believe that we’ve already been living in the farmhouse for two weeks.
Georgie is two weeks old today, and it feels like our family and the farm are settling in together. He has a healthy appetite and is putting away bottles of milk like it’s his full-time job. Watching him grow and gain confidence each day has been a lot of fun. He’s so strong already!
We’re still surrounded by boxes, but Skyview is truly beginning to feel like home. One of the best parts of living here full-time has been getting to enjoy the farm beyond the busy work—the sunrises over the pasture, colorful sunsets, and fireflies sparkling across the tree lines each evening. There’s something magical about this time of year in Kansas.
The past couple of weeks have brought plenty of “firsts” as farm owners. We weathered our first major storm and power outage, but thankfully the backup generator kicked on immediately and kept the creamery equipment running without interruption.
The herd is changing with the season as well. Fresca has officially been dried off and is enjoying a well-deserved break as we prepare her for the final stages of pregnancy. She’s due in early August, and we’re looking forward to welcoming another calf before long.
Many of you have asked how the Noffkes are doing in Atchison. Things are moving right along. They’ve picked up their cheese vat, cheese press, and boiler, and this week they’ll have their inspection for a temporary license to package cheese. Sheri is also preparing to send out the first newsletter from their new creamery. (Sign up here.) We’re excited to follow their progress and continue carrying their wonderful cheeses here at the farm.
There are still plenty of projects ahead and lots left to learn, but each day we’re becoming more connected to the land, the animals, and this wonderful community. Thank you for supporting our farm. We’re grateful to share this journey with you.
